Angus McLewin

Director, The Training Observatory

Angus originally trained as a photographer, then subsequently as a teacher, theatre practitioner and dramatherapist. He has worked for over twenty years with disadvantaged and disaffected groups in project delivery, development and management, particularly in the areas of community arts, mental health, disability and latterly in criminal justice.

From 1999-2004, he became a co-director of the Unit for the Arts and Offenders (now the Anne Peaker Centre) and helped develop the role of the Unit as the national umbrella organisation for supporting and promoting the value of the arts in relation to criminal justice issues in the UK.

Since 2004, he has become an independent consultant, focusing on the arts and social policy, working with Arts Council England, Creative Partnerships, Local Authorities, YOTS and individual organisations as well as in-depth research on the role of the arts in addressing gang culture and gun crime in the UK.
