Summary of professional role
I am a freelance independent consultant on youth work, youth policy and community-based learning. I come from a background of practice, training and inspection including twelve years as a H M Inspector of Schools. My clients are principally government (national and local authorities), development agencies and voluntary and community sector organisations. I am also visiting professor at De Montfort University, Leicester. I write, research, train, and provide consultancy and coaching to organisations and individuals.
Why I am involved in the Training Observatory
I am involved in the Training Observatory because I am deeply committed to finding ways of mobilising the creativity and talent of young people, in particular those who are disadvantaged and who under-achieve in formal education; and to the professional development of those who work with them.
Area of expertise/interest
My expertise lies in identifying and setting quality standards in motivating young people to engage in learning and in ensuring that organisations have procedures and processes in place for monitoring and evaluating these standards. I believe I can contribute to specifying the kinds of knowledge, skills and understanding required by arts practitioners and youth workers in seeking to engage young people in recognising and releasing their creativity.
