About the Training Observatory

Why we need the Training Obervatory

There is currently no coherent or co-ordinated approach to the CPD of teachers, artists and other professionals to work effectively with children and young people in volatile and challenging  contexts across the key social inclusion sectors of education, health, crime and regeneration.

There is no coherent or co-ordinated information on the current and emerging CPD and training provision for professionals working directly with volatile and challenging young people.

There is a need to improve the quality of arts provision for young people across key social exclusion sectors through high-quality CPD and training programmes. These should be led by providers and practitioners who know that the arts are effective in the areas of engagement, participation and progression, and who truly care about the needs of children and young people.

The implications of the Children Act 2004 and the implementation of the key ‘Every Child Matters’ agendas from 2006 onwards are setting new standards of skills and competencies for all professionals working with children and young people. Professionals working with the arts need to be able to link into these emerging standards.
