Dance United

Dance United is the UK’s leading dance in social inclusion organisation with an international reputation for creating the highest quality contemporary dance training and performance projects with disadvantaged and marginalised individuals and communities: from street children in Ethiopia to young offenders in Bradford and ‘reluctant’ young gangsters in East London. This area of applied contemporary dance practice is rapidly expanding with their Dance Academy in Bradford.

The main focus of Dance United’s introductory training course: An Introduction to Dance United’s Social Inclusion Practice is the relationship between pro-active dance-based strategies that are embedded in a distinctive contemporary dance methodology and re-active non-dance strategies that, together, can successfully resolve challenging behaviour, resistance and non-engagement within participant groups. The key questions revolve around:
• What is the relationship between ‘soft’ group management and ‘hard’ dance skills embedded within Dance United’s methodology?
• How far does Dance United’s methodology minimise risk and meltdown?
• How and why do particular strategies work?
The training material is delivered over four/five full days or in smaller chunks of time.
